“The Platform” is an innovative convention that focuses on
young choreographers, in addition to young dancers.
Technical abilities and artistic choices within classical Ballet, Modern, and new age Contemporary will be reviewed by a panel of masters in dance.
Additionally, there is a choreographer's division that focuses solely on originality, craftsmanship, and compositional elements.
Original choreography is accepted from ages 15 through 22 years old.
This competition does not hand out trophies,
we do better than that...
The Dance Competition
A panel of working professionals and dance extraordinaires will critique solos, duets, trios, and group works within the genres of Classical Ballet, Modern, and new age Contemporary choreography. All choreography must be created by the Division's age group requirements.
First-place winners will receive a cash prize and an invitation to perform at the Palm Springs International Dance Festival 2022.

The Choreographer Competition
Based on the foundational elements of choreography: time, space, energy, and weight; the competition will accept Modern, Ballet, and Contemporary choreography.
All work must be original choreography.
This is a new "platform" for aspiring young choreographers to not only present their work but an opportunity to receive up to a $1000 cash prize.
One deserving choreographer will be chosen and commissioned to create an original piece for the internationally renowned Nickerson-Rossi Dance Company under the guidance of Michael Nickerson-Rossi. Not only will this artist's choreography be professionally photographed and filmed, but their work will also be performed at the
Palm Springs International Dance Festival Spring Gala 2022.

Second and Third place winners will also receive a cash prize.
TEEN
DIVISION

The choreographer must be within the age of 15 - 18.

Choreographers can have a "mentor" to assist with choreography.

Dancers must be within the age of 15 - 18.

Choreographic works must be within a 2 minute and 5-minute timeframe.
YOUNG ADULT DIVISION

The choreographer must be within the age of 19 - 22.

Dancers must be within the age of 19 - 22.

Choreographic works must be within a 5 minute and 8-minute timeframe.
